In this post we will go into detail about a few new age nutrition items for your bug out bag and food stores.
Everything from CRICKET PROTEIN, MEAL REPLACEMENT POWDERS and even ALGAE.
Some of these can be included in you BOB and your INCH, in your car and even your first aid kit.
All of them will give you that edge to stay healthy and alert with superior nutrition so you have that much needed edge in times of emergency, crisis and stress.
You can have all the best gear, know how to use it but if you cant get the right food into your machine to power and heal it – you’re done.
Whilst ideally you will be able to live off the land, not looking to modern science and nutrition to assist – at least in the short term – would be closed minded.
For full transparency we are not affiliates for these products, are not paid to endorse them and receive not financial benefit for writing about them here.
Remember: We are NOT doctors or trained dietitians. This is for information purposes only and reflected of our experiences with these foods. Get your own advice and make your own decisions.
This is a protein powder made form crickets.
Besides being far easier to farm and far more ecologically friendly, they are a whole food and highly nutritious.
Its easy and light to carry with no liquid and can be added to other foods to boost their nutrition.
- Double the protein of beef
- More calcium than milk
- More Omegas and B12 than wild salmon
- More Iron than Spinach
We have carried powdered milk in our BOB for some time but are changing it up to a more nutritious food stuff. Crickets.
Ample – Complete Meal Replacement
This is another powder but so nutritionally dense it is treated as a complete 400 or 600 calorie meal replacement.
Importantly, the macro breakdown is heavily weighted to proteins and fats and less so on carbohydrate.
More slow burn, brain enriching MCTs, instead of fast burning sugar – prevents excess insulin spikes, inflammation, and oxidative stress.
Check out the nutrition page yourselves. We’ve got ours on order and will post about it once received.
ALGAE – Chlorella and Spirulina
These 2 protein dense algae are well known in other parts of the world as a healthy, alternate source of nutrition.
NO caffeine, sugar, chemicals, gluten or soy, just pure, plant based nutrition. ONE INGREDIENT, ONE CALORIE and ZERO NET CARBS.
These small tabs which can be purchased from a lot of different places are again easy to carry, light weight and pack a nutritional punch well beyond your standard prepping foods.
One of the central qualities of all algae is the ability to absorb toxins, which is why only algae that are cultivated in a controlled environment should be consumed. Be careful which brands you purchase and only but from certified sources to avoid contaminating yourselves further by buying cheap, bulk products produced in tainted water.
Look for products made from Taiwan and avoid countries with tainted water tables. (Do your own research on this you’ll be surprised about where your algae AND rice are coming from and whats in the water!)
Both Spirulina and Chlorella can be added to meals – crushed and sprinkled – consumed between meals to maintain energy and provide a healthy plant based protein.
They have a very strong taste and will colour your teeth and mouth temporarily.
CHLORELLA – Soaks up radiation like a sponge
The Japanese were the first to discover the detoxifying properties of Chlorella to remove poisonous substances from the body such as radiation. After atomic weapons were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Chlorella was used to remove radiation from the bodies of those who had become contaminated. Chlorella soaks up radiation like a sponge.
SPIRULINA – Most Nutrient Dense Food On the Planet
According to energybits, research done by NASA showed that that 1 kg of spirulina had the nutritional equivalent of 1,000 kg of fruits and vegetables… consider that many International Health Organizations including the United Nations have hailed spirulina as one of the “Greatest Superfoods on Earth.
Spirulina’s nutritional pedigree is so impressive that The World Bank, NASA and Olympic athletes have all declared spirulina to be the most nutritious food in the entire world.
Spirulina contains over 100 nutrients:
- rich vegetable protein (60~ 63 %, 3~4 times higher than fish or beef )
- multi Vitamins (Vitamin B 12 is 3~4 times higher than animal liver)
- a wide range of minerals (including Iron, Potassium, Magnesium Sodium, Phosphorus, Calcium etc.)
- a high volume of Beta- carotene which protects cells (5 time more than carrots, 40 time more than spinach)
- high volumes of gamma-Linolein acid (which can reduce cholesterol and prevent heart disease).
