Lost at Sea Survival Scenario

Post by MasterChief » Sun Jan 14, 2018 2:36 pm

Lost at Sea Survival Scenario:

You and 3 friends have charted a yacht in the Tasman Sea for an ocean adventure. You hired a skipper and crew as none of you had the experience necxessary to crew and navigte the vessel.

--> Fire breaks out in the galley in a fierce storm, skipper and crew overboard and likely dead, comms gear destroyed, none of your remaining party are injured, you can all swim. You get to choose 3 things for the list to survive…what 3 things and how do you survive?

Your location is unclear because vital navigational and radio equipment have been damaged in the fire. Your best estimate is that you are many hundreds of miles from the nearest landfall.

You and your friends have managed to save 15 items, undamaged and intact after the fire. In addition, you have salvaged a four man rubber life craft and a box of matches.

Rank what you think are the most important items and you will survive until rescue comes. Make too many mistakes and…

What do you do?
What 3-5 things from the list below do you think are most

1. A sextant
2. A shaving mirror
3. A quantity of mosquito netting
4. A 5 litre can of water
5. A case of army rations
6. Maps of the Pacific Ocean
7. A floating seat cushion
8. A 2 litre can of oil/petrol mixture
9. A small transistor radio
10. 20 square metres of opaque plastic sheeting
11. Shark repellent
12. One litre of 1overproof body rum
13. 15metres nylon rope
14. 2 boxes of chocolate bars
15. A fishing kit

• In addition to the above, you have salvaged a four man rubber life craft.
• The total contents of your combined pocket’s amounts to a packet of cigarettes, three boxes of matches and 3 $5 notes.

Here's my answer.
  1. I'd keep the mirror for signalling
  2. The oil petrol mixture as it would float on top of the water and make a slick that could be seen from above.
  3. The water to drin
  4. The rations to eat
  5. The plastic to capture condensation...
