Staying hydrated

Post by John » Thu Dec 20, 2018 5:48 pm

Hi all
Have any out there considered carrying hydration tablets in you BOB.
It’s been a pretty hot day here I’ve been working out side most of the day cleaning gutters, brush cutting and some slashing. just the general fire prevention jobs that need doing this time of year an feeling a bit of a headache and dry an dehydrated I when for some dehydration tablets I keep in the medical cabinet for sickness and times like this.
This is one thing I’ve over looked in my BOB supplies that I think could be a big help in Australia’s hot environment not knowing how many miles on foot you may have to travel.Yes drinking lot of fluids traveling in the cooler parts of the day staying out of the sun are all good things but depending on the situation you may not have a choice when you travel how far and pace.

This has got me thinking a little deeper and has me wondering is there any wild herbs or plants that grow in Australia that could be used to help cope with dehydration.

Just my thoughts like to hear what you all think

Yes I carry a bottle of dehydrated water pills in my pack
They are small pills and there are five hundred to the bottle with a little dispenser in the lid that limits you to one pill at a time
and no expiry date.

Very handy

Thanks Grumpy
Where do you get them from and is there a brand to look for
The ones I’ve found at my local chemist only have ten in a tube for around $10
I’d like to get a few packs of the 500 packs you mentioned having no expiry even better

These are for shedding body fluids Grumpy, also used to reduce high blood pressure I believe. They DO NOT re-hydrate your body!

Carrying Berocca or similar will replace some salts. I carry them along with Glucose tablets. I buy Poweraid or similar as a powder and decanter into small zip lock bags, that way I have metered doses per litre of water

Mike use that electrolyte stuff sparingly as over use will kill you!
