At the moment I only have one blade, the U.S made KA-BAR short.

No worries Keith, it appears not many here do have any sort of knife (Or they are just not posting), but it is a invaluable thing to have for survival. The KA-BAR short is great for making shavings for tinder as well as cutting through ropes and other materials. With a few modifications with a file to take off some of the black coating, a ferro rod should strike easy against the spine and produce sparks, I know some people like to baton with their knives but I plan to buy a hatchet for that purpose.

Another benefit is it's clip point design, it has a false edge on the top of the blade which can be sharpened, making it an effective stabbing tool for self defense purposes

It being carbon steel also makes it easy to sharpen. Well worth the $100 I paid for it.

I agree Deimos, batoning a good knife is pointless & senseless, far better to carry a tomahawk or a light hatchet, I prefer a tomahawk. Right tool for the job is something my father taught me. Mind you, batoning seems to only be used on sawn wood, & I have never ever had to cut or saw wood in a forest or woodland for a camp fire. Plenty of wood to pick up off the ground, & easily broken without an axe.

My latest Hunting Knife.
This one is not my main hunting knife, but in a shtf situation I would be carrying this under my belt at my back as a back-up.
