Re: Prepping is not all doom and gloom.

Prepping can be To become self sufficient and have the ability to survive should the need arise. And in this day and age, we all have to be aware, what we have is not going to last: I absolutely agree with you Benarkin. For me, prepping has very little to do with anyone else (aka. marauders, possib...

Re: tO reload or Not

I don't have a problem with this as I don't own a weapon, but I've seen farming folks mention vacuum storing rounds in large-ish batches to reduce some of the risk of environmental problems with long term storage? No idea if it's effective though.

Re: Anyone else here use a wood burning stove for cooking? Show us your stove.

Good points. I was also considering a HomeBiogas 2.0 system (not sure if we're allowed to link here, but it's on kickstarter at the moment). The climate in the area we're looking to buy would be perfect for the set up but I'd really like to see a lot more long-term reviews before digging deep. That ...

Re: A Lot of Views, But Few Replies. Why?

That's true. The other reason that I tend to stay quiet is that the reason that I got into prepping was not prepping for the world ending or anything like that. I was fascinated with a return to a simpler lifestyle and a reduction of dependence on modern necessities. Prepping for me is about preppin...

Re: Show us the blades you carry in the bush.

I have a Gerber Infantry that I bought specifically for camping. It's done me pretty well so far. Very solid and works equally well for splitting kindling as it does for cutting up ingredients for dinner  . It has a groove on the side to turn it into a spear (are you kidding me? I'd stab myself...

Re: Hand to hand defence. What do you carry?

Reflexes. Straight and simple. Doesn't matter what's in your hand if you're unable to apply it effectively because you haven't practiced with it. I'm probably far more effective with a keyring of splayed car keys than a knife because that's what I've had to protect myself every time I've been walkin...

Re: A Lot of Views, But Few Replies. Why?

Fair enough, I guess I'll pipe up a bit more often ;) I agree, it can be very discouraging to not get replies when you're trying to learn or build a bit of a community. I've seen a few forums where there are folks who are clique-y and it makes it tough to get involved. I guess that made me a little ...

Re: Anyone else here use a wood burning stove for cooking? Show us your stove.

I have a deep and abiding love for Esse and Aga stoves and I'm so keen to get one, one day. The sad thing is that they're SO expensive (how much? I CAN BUY A CAR FOR THAT!!!) but I figure for dual fuel, heating, and water heating in one unit it's probably worth it. I've cooked on open fires many tim...

Re: What are you prepping for?

Pretty simple for me. Financial collapse leading to recession, and environmental concerns. I am comfortable with my position on most other scenarios, I feel that being prepped for financial and environmental will cover MOST scenarios in as far as I have control to achieve. I'm pretty confident that ...

Re: A Lot of Views, But Few Replies. Why?

Pretty simple answer for me. I lurk a few forums (obviously this is one of them!) but find that the biggest drawback to dipping my toes in is how quickly people tend to judge new folk harshly. Or not bother to develop the relationships of the forum by only engaging with the 'regulars'. I've seen man...
