Re: Bugging Out Alone. What is your choice & why?

Exactly Bilby.

I've been running free annual prepper camps on bush properties I own for 15 years. I've met a wide gamut of preppers and learn't a lot. Including how to spot a pretender or troll. Which I suspect Thunda actually is. Here to spread discord for his own amusement. A lot of what he writes doesn't ring true. Time will tell if he can backup his fabulous claims, but I suspect he will cause havoc for a while then vanish onto the next forum.

Being gullible isn't one of my survivalist traits.

Re: Bugging Out Alone. What is your choice & why?

You should take your own advice.

At the moment all you are is a whole lot of bragging. Let's see some evidence that you're as well setup as you say you are. You know, like posting pictures of your awesome retreat like I have done.

Perhaps even a photo in your aircraft with a sign saying 'frostbite is an idiot'.

But I know that will never happen, because I've seen your type before. The sort of low achieving wannabe that destroyed AusSurvivalist.

I missed the last bit of your reply, about knowing better being an ex digger.

l survived! And I'll continue to survive until l drop from old age, and I'll guarantee you don't have the years behind you that l have or the back ground.

It all depends on your environment, if you don't know what's going on around your turf you won't last long traps an snares ain't just fer tucker.
Get with the times old man. We use drones these days. And thermal optics.

Re: Bugging Out Alone. What is your choice & why?

Sometimes the hostile environment comes to you. Especially if you are static in a well setup retreat, even one with a new saw mill.

Your comments are contradictory. How can you not place yourself in a hostile environment and still be a predator?

This forum is 90% dreamers and 10% doers. I'm in the 10%.

I do have a family to protect. Two of whom are ex army, one of whom spent a fair bit of time in a very bad place overseas.

Re: Bugging Out Alone. What is your choice & why?

The problem with traps and snares in a hostile environment is they force you into a routine of checking the traps. Everybody knows, except perhaps the ANA, that routine in a hostile world gets you killed.

As a former soldier you should know that.

Re: Bugging Out Alone. What is your choice & why?

A .22 rifle with cci subsonic ammo is as quiet as a bow and much more accurate. No prohibited item required off the muzzle.

I believe bilby has a mental aversion to firearms. Her physical size is irrelevant. My daughter, at 5ft nothing and 43kg carried an automatic weapon around all day without any problem.

Really? If you were trying to survive after shtf and you heard gunfire would you move toward it or away from it?

Re: Bugging Out Alone. What is your choice & why?

As with most things, a pistol has positives and negatives.

On the plus side, a pistol like a glock 17 offers light weight, semiautomatic fire, high magazine capacity and fast reloads. It will end most threats, even multiple threats, with a bit of training.

On the negative side a handgun requires regular training and are limited in range, especially when under duress.

For me the big plus of handguns is they can be holstered and be within quick reach whenever you need it. It won't limit your daily activity like a longarm will. You can sling a rifle, but it will still restrict your movement when digging, chopping firewood, building a shelter, so it will invariably be out of reach when you need it, whereas a pistol is always at hand.
